„Fragebogen“ is a standard interview with 15 questions around music plus a special task. This time it’s singer Jenny Berkel who answers them.
*** Hier geht es zur deutschen Version des Fragebogens ***
First cd: Probably one of Bette Midler’s greatest hits albums, featuring covers of songs by John Prine and Tom Waits.
First concert: As a kid, Sarah McLachlan. As a teenager, Montreal’s great Mark Berube (who currently lives in Berlin).
First childhood memory related to music: When my sister Kay and I were very little (under 5), my parents had a tape recorder with a real microphone hooked into it. They would put blank tapes in and let us make our own songs up and record them. We have tapes full of songs about curly hair, bows and pretty shoes.
Favourite song at the moment: Martha Sways by Andy Shauf
A rather embarrassing song you like: Please Forgive Me by Bryan Adams
Favourite song among your own: Wealth in the Country
Favourite songlyrics: Tamara Lindeman (The Weather Station) is my favourite lyricist in Canada. It’s hard to choose one song. I particularly love her EP “What Am I Going To Do With Everything I Know.” So tender and beautiful.
Best concert: Leonard Cohen! I saw him a few years ago in Saskatoon, a city in the Canadian prairies. He was perfect.
Worst concert: Bright Eyes. They played brilliantly but were rude to the audience.
Best concert among your own: I just got back from playing at the Dawson City Music Festival up north in the Yukon (where the sun never fully sets). It was amazing.
Vinyl, cd or mp3? Vinyl!
Download or stream? Ideally download…
Club concert or festival? Club concert.
Three songs that really have to be on your mixtape: Let it Be Me (Nina Simone’s version), A Case of You (Joni Mitchell) and Talk to Me of Mendocino (sung by Rufus and Martha Wainwright).
An album you would NOT take with you to a lonely island: 1989 by Taylor Swift. This album has won over most of my friends, but I just can’t get behind it…
