„Fragebogen“ is a standard interview with 15 questions around music plus a special task. This time it’s singer David Beckingham who answers them.
*** Hier geht es zur deutschen Version des Fragebogens ***
First cd: I don’t remember… I’m aging myself here but my first cassette tape was Elvis Presley „Pure Gold“.
First concert: U2 Popmart
First childhood memory related to music: Singing the Hymns they made us sing in boy’s school assemblies in England.
Favourite song at the moment: „Elegy“ by Leif Vollebekk is one of many current favorites
A rather embarrassing song you like: I have no shame or embarrassment with any song but just to play along, „Sonate Pacifique“ by L’Imperatrice. The lyrics are perfectly cheesy but the feel is amazing.
Favourite song among your own: Maybe „Forest“. Some songs write themselves so easily and they’re usually the best ones. “Forest” is a good example of a fairly pain-free transmission from the muse.
Favourite songlyrics: From „Call Me Al“ By Paul Simon (Particularly the last 4 lines…I love these lines)
A man walks down the street
It’s a street in a strange world
Maybe it’s the Third World
Maybe it’s his first time around
He doesn’t speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
The sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterlings and orphanages
He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says Amen! and Hallelujah!
Best concert: Probably Radiohead after In Rainbows.
Worst concert: That’s a hard question to answer. Probably some of the shows I saw when I played on Vans Warped Tour. Other than a couple of bands it was just not my scene at all.
Best concert among your own: I played an old heritage hall in Vancouver (my hometown) for my cd release show with my friends Twin Bandit opening up and singing with me. My Dad played trumpet and I have a string section. It was a beautiful night with lots of love.
Vinyl, cd or mp3? Vinyl
Download or stream? Stream (it’s hard to travel with hard drives full of music and there’s not enough room for all of my music on my iPhone).
Club concert or festival? Festival. I honestly loath being squashed into clubs.
Three songs that really have to be on your mixtape:
“Lover You Should’ve Come Over” (Jeff Buckley)
“Between The Bars” (Elliot Smith)
“A Case Of You” (Joni Mitchell)
An album you would NOT take with you to a lonely island: Oh, I don’t know, maybe any Metallica Record. Not really my tempo.
Tea and coffee are a big part of my life in general (Lately more tea) so I find myself spending a lot of time in cafe’s on my travels. They’re a great place to work, write lyrics ideas, people watch, be a fly on the wall.
